Did they? I don't know about that. Thing that proved it either way for me was Captain Rainbow, a very niche Japanese game for the Wii. I've not played it but read up a bit about the plot and 1 of Captain Rainbows' tasks was to help Birdo prove "She" was a girl. So he went to her home and found an-ahem - "Sex toy". No wonder the game never left Japan!

In my opinion the N64 was not just the best console of the 5th gen but, to this day the best console ever created!
