Still playing with a controller on a television is EXACTLY what defines console gaming, it's a native feature of consoles. PC got adapted to that later on because PC had to admit that it's a great idea but it's not originally speaking a PC thing.

Consoles are also natively speaking gaming machines which PC's aren't.

That's ignoring home computers like the ZX Spectrum/Commodore 64 which where specifically made to be connected to a TV and use controllers.
