Basically, that's the conclusion I have come to.

It's like trying to argue that potatoes aren't apples. They come back and say "Well, Mr. Idiot, if they're not apples why do the Swiss and Austrians call them ground apples? You are just trying to do word gymnastics to avoid the association."

They think socialism and national socialism are the same thing, or at least closely related because of the word socialism; despite having completely opposing worldviews and ideologies. They also believe communism and socialism are the same thing because they both factor into Marxist theories.
