In places like the US rape does happen but it is not as prevalent as some places like India as OP mentioned. There asking a women to carry a gun may be more beneficial but that raised other issues like training and trust. We don't want guys getting shot and then having a female falsely claiming she was being raped.
Pushing that aside, the guns would not help here because most of the rape here in America actually affects minors and is usually done by a family member.

The point that this brings up that no matter what we wanted the guns for, it was going to be a band-aid for a deeper issue period. We can't act like guys simply can't help themselves and therefore they come for you like zombies.

I don't have enough information about someplace like India, but to me it sounds like they have a real 'rape culture' there. This is a societal issue that a gun isn't going to solve. As in, if you have mass rape going on, it means you have real societal issues from the jump.

In America, we don't have that kind of 'rape culture' but we have a HUGE incest rape problem here. I don't even know where to start with that but guns again will only cover up a much deeper issues here.

You can't bring up something like rape and then pretend that guns are going to fix a deeply rooted societal issue like that. This requires actually mental health intervention.
