My answer is who gives a shit. Their games sell millions, so I think they know what they are doing. Personally, I prefer the 2-3 years before release announcement. I like following a game's development and getting more hyped. And while I think announcing 4-5 years in advance is annoying, it isn't like it's stopping me, or anyone else, from buying the game.
I do think it's funny when some Xbox fans try to push this narrative, though, as MS is worse than Sony on the matter. But, regardless of who does it, quit the bitching.
