Fair enough - truth is I don't know for sure but neither do you :P

Doesn't necessarily mean it's benevolent, it can be totally indifferent. But whatever, there could very well be nothing else beyond or above us. I certainly don't favor the concept of some singular conscious being controlling us and everything else either or of any religion in particular -  what I AM saying is considering we're barely specs in this massive universe I think that's a bit short-sighted in its own way to assume that we as humans just stand at the absolute pinnacle of power, control, and consciousness in the universe and that somehow all the endless matter around us just completely manifest itself without any rhyme or reason or any source.

You're right, I don't know for sure anymore than you or anyone else. But what I do is look at what is out there and what we know for sure and from there I form a reasonable opinion. Example: In nature the tiger will VERY PAINFULLY rend and tear the flesh of the deer in order to eat so it is reasonable to assume that nature IF created by some superior being, was not made out of kindness or enlightenment. Instead nature is a blind push towards survival with no "moral" concept whatsoever. Those are the best clues we have to figure out if there is some superior being that his/her intentions are not benevolent or enlightened. But as primitive as we humans are, we are capable of at least a little bit of compassion and we understand the concepts of right and wrong, even if we are far from full wisdom so again it's reasonable to assume that such a supreme being should be light years ahead of us in terms of kindness and benevolence and enlightenment. Therefore logic suggests there is NO such being out there as the cruelty of his creation which is nature demonstrates.

Also I never said we are the pinnacle of power in the universe, we are indeed an insignificant speck lost in an immense vastness of space, matter and energy that we don't even fully comprehend yet. We are just a sentient species, aware of our own existence and seeking meaning in this vast universe. But just because we are lost in this existence does not mean that making up stories (like religion does) to feel better about ourselves is the intelligent thing to do.
