There really ian't anythimg faster. In truth, Hard drives are the fastest solutions. 

When you make a cart fast enoigh to match the speeds of an SSD (over 500MB/s) then said cart will become prohibitively expensive. 

Just think of HDDs as the-modern day glorified cart and discs as nothing more than a transport medium for your games to said HDD.

The Switch works fine without having to install the games.
