Yeah, that's what I kind of figured. Especially here in America, the patriotism to the N64 is real. That's a big reason why I think N64 games tend to be looked back on more positively than most PS1 games, too.

Probably also why OG XBOX isn't considered a  .... TOTAL failure (arguably it did ok)

The N64 actually had a really good start in the U.S. In the 14 weeks it was available in 1996, it managed to sell almost as much as the PS1 did that whole year. It was also the overall sales leader for the Jan.-Aug. period. It wasn't until Final Fantasy VII came out that the PS1 took off and surpassed the N64.

Switch selling very well, but the only reason it's beating ps4 is because of the launch boost, this year will be 100% fair comparison, and ps4 is already in the lead.

The numbers I posted in my commentary excluded the Switch's launch month, and my comparison aligns them to their first full Q2+Q4 period. The Switch comes in first even ignoring March. Even if we shorten the time frame to their first respective July-Feb. period (an 8-month span), the Switch still takes the lead. Even when making all the proper adjustments to make a fairer comparison, the Switch still wins.

its still a unfair comparison, because switch didn't fulfill launch demand till october, while ps4 did by march 2014, there is a reason ps4 had it's best January in 2014.
