Why's everyone shocked that the PS4 is doing so well despite being old? Don't consoles usually peak during years 2-4 anyways? They seem to do a lot better when they're older and cheaper than when they're new and shiny almost every time. I remember the DS started off pretty miserably before nuking the competition when the 7th gen started.

As for the Switch, I think we're past the point where Nintendo's competitors need to suffer in order for Nintendo's consoles to blow up, so I wouldn't call 3rd place "losing momentum". This isn't like a few years ago when Sony and Microsoft would take almost all the marketshare at the expense of the Wii U. The Switch seems to be creating its own marketshare without cutting into the sales of the others like the Wii did at the start of the 7th gen.
