I'm not surprised given OP's state, Nintendo is obviously not off to a good start if they are banking on finding a golden nugget over duds among duds ... (a unified development team isn't much of an advantage when it's still just as hard to push out new high production value titles on higher end systems for them)

Most of Switch's notable releases so far are titles from WII U which failed to become system sellers on it's initial platform and nobody is hyped about Mario Tennis Aces since the last time the franchise broke 2M units was back on the N64, Kirby is about as relevant as Yoshi or Luigi are and hardly anybody is pre-ordering Labo so it looks like they read the market wrong again ...

I don't think Nintendo is necessarily trying to find a golden nugget per se. The Switch is still selling well and some of the latest announced games are supposedly charting well on Amazon (doesn't paint the whole picture, but its something to consider). And to your Labo point, Nintendo has already stated the purpose of it and from hands-on impressions, whether it children and/or adults, it appears to be mostly positive. It's not meant for the so-called hardcore gamer and that's fine. It allows the opportunity to expand the audience of the Switch, as the audience right now are mostly young adults according to Nintendo's demographic data.

It's kinda weird people doubting the Switch's initial success when BoTW was supposedly the only relevant launch title and there's nothing to play until MK8D in April and then nothing original until ARMS in June.

Now, we're saying even with quality ports and AA titles like Octopath Traveler, Kirby, Yoshi, etc., along with a couple of AAA titles like Smash Bros., its not gonna make up what BoTW and Mario Odyssey started last year. And we forget that games like Odyssey, Zelda, and Splatoon 2 are evergreen titles. Splatoon 2 is about to get its first single-player expansion so that will create some new interest and its still among the top sellers in Japan.
