Observations:
FFVII and FFX were the best selling games on their platforms. Sales seem to decline each time another Final Fantasy is released on the same platform. For example, FFIX is very well loved by fans and gets less hate than probably every other Final Fantasy on this list, but it still saw a sales decline from VIII.
Since FFXIII was the first Final Fantasy on the PS3, it is fair to compare it to FFVII and FFX. Since FFXIII sold about 3m less than FFX (either on one platform or total sales) it is fair to say that it shows a marked decline in the Final Fantasy franchise.
We still have to see how FFXV will do in the long run. It is safe to say that it will pass FFXIII, but it still has a long way to go to get up to FFX numbers.
