Nintendo isn't the only occasion where manufacturer brand and product brand are effectively the same thing though. Take Coca-Cola for example. That's the product brand, and is used in the name of the actual company too. Nintendo is pretty much used in the same way, every one of their consoles is known as a Nintendo something.

Not necessarily. Game Boy, Game Boy Advance, Wii, and Wii U didn't have "Nintendo" in their branding.
