You can compare your left and right Joy-Con and see if the retractable part looks different on the left Joy-Con. You can also make use of warranty to only pay a fraction of a replacement. I can't say how good Nintendo's customer service in the UK/Ireland is, but for the German-speaking countries of Europe it's great. There's even a chat on their customer service website, so you can describe your problem and get quick answers without having to do a phone call. I've had to send in my left Joy-Con because its analog stick was malfunctioning on top of disconnects in TV mode; I got it back in seven days. Most of that time can be attributed to standard mail service, because the e-mails I got from Nintendo's repair center made it clear that they had my Joy-Con for only a day. |
My left joycon gets homesick after a couple of feet from the system too, my fix to this was to never stop playing with it in my hands (and also bought a 20e hori wired pad for when it does go in the dock) but yeah.... have had the left joycon not really have proper range since launch almost but didn't impact my 1000 hours of handheld fun.
Like I said the reason I didn't send it away (with the range issue originally in april) is because my Switch literally gets 2-3 hours of play every day in between work , meals and travel. It has become a major part of my days and being without a part of it for a week is gonna hurt to do.
