That is a Nintendo *handheld* practice. The N64, GCN, Wii, and Wii U never had serious revisions to the units themselves. Sony, however, has always had multiple console revisions. Not criticising, just pointing it out. And I said that was part of the way they kept selling. Library growth and competitive pricing were part of that too. And the basic PS4 had 500GB of storage. The current Slim is 1TB. With file size bloat ever growing, that is a significant difference. Edit: to be clear, I never said Nintendo didn't do similar things. Just that Sony has in the past. PS3 in particular. Though the PS One accounts for over 28 million of the origina Playstation's sales. |
Sony’s revisions have always been to cut manufacturing costs, as opposed to extending the life of their system, with the Pro being the exception as it was created to push 4K. The PS3 in particular is where they demonstrated that with each revision trimming on features and costing less.
