Well to be fair releasing on PS3/360 and then re-releasing on PS4/XOne probably near doubled its sales. It would still be the biggest GTA by far, but not as much if not for the re-release.

Plus compared to GTA4, it's a much better game. GTA4 had a lot of criticism when it was released and while I still think it's a great game it's generally considered one of the weaker GTA titles. 5 however is just a great game. GTA Online has no doubt helped a lot too. Sure GTA4 had a lot of multiplayer modes as well, but like I said people just didn't like 4 as much.

GTAIV had massive praise upon release though. I guess being re-released probably helped its sales a lot though.
