The fact that Nintendo came out swinning and gave people what they wanted from Mario & Zelda games, is what gave it such a strong start. In that sense I hardly think Marketing mattered at all, compaired (to just doing decent hardware + strong 1st party lineup early).

True, but the marketing was very different and more active this time around. I know it's fully anecdotal, but people actually now about it on the outside. Totally reverse from the WiiU. The point I want to make is the power of marketing should not be underestimated.
