Disney and Marvel Studios' Black Panther is already making history at the U.S. box office, devouring a massive $25.2 million leaping into theaters Thursday night.

That's the second-best preview gross for a Marvel title behind Avengers: Age of Ultron ($27.6 million) and the fourth-best preview gross for any superhero pic behind The Dark Knight Rises ($30.6 million), Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice ($27.7 million) and Ultron, not accounting for inflation. Black Panther edged out fellow Marvel pic Captain America: Civil War, which took in $25 million in previews.

It is also the best preview number for February, nearly doubling the $12.7 million grossed by Deadpool two years ago. And overall, Black Panther is No. 13 of top preview earners.
