Accept it or not it doesn't change that they are as that's how DQXI was created, Dead Rising on Wii uses a different code and engine doesn't stop it being the same game.

Arbitrary how exactly? The sales comparison is seeing how Splatoon 2 measure's up to DQ's popularity in Japan I think you're well on the wrong track here.

It completely makes it a separate game. This is purely a semantics argument. It doesn't change that they aren't 1:1 the same thing.
