They're still the same game, same story,  same world, same characters etc... the only difference is the 3d approach as that's how the game was conceived to have two versions as the series itself has two very different approaches in its game, just go read the developer's statements. The 3DS version is also the version that is the remade one as it's concept came after, the PS4 game is based on DQVIII's approach while the 3DS game is based on the other game's approach.

Except they aren't. They're two separately created games with entirely different code using the same world, story and characters.

I was going to say it's arbitrary to compare Splatoon 2 to both DQXI releases combined, but then I realized this entire comparison is arbitrary, especially since they aren't even in the same genre, lol
