It's part of the bill of rights.

Could you educate the poster on what the bill of rights states?

The bill of rights are the first few amendments in the US constitution and they are for many the most important Amendments. The second Amendment is in the bill of rights and gives people the right to own guns. The government's job is to protect and make sure the constitution and especially the bill of rights is enforced. But there have been amendments that were "repealed" by creating a new amendment that makes the old one null so in order to get rid of the second amendment you would need the approval of 2/3 of Congress and 38 states. Most politicians even democrats aren't really opposed to the second Amendment since it's in the Constitution but would like stricter gun laws instead. And there are also many who like guns laws the way they are now. Because of this it's very close to impossible to get rid of the second Amendment with the current political climate.
