They don't have that many option. Warner Brothers is their main competitor and they won't go wih it; Bethesda doesnt produce that many games per year, so  they wouldn't be satisfied with their ouput; Take 2 the same (and besides, they own GTA, and I'm sure Disney doesn't want to see the "Disney partners with GTA maker to make Star Wars games" on the press); Microsoft is too big and they have their own ecosystem to take care of, and the same with Sony and Nintendo. And most japanese games are not that big to make the big projects Disney wants. Maybe Square Enix would be ideal, they already make Kingdom Hearts and that Marvel project. Still, it's better if there's no monopoly of the license.

They have a lot of options. Many developers would kill to work on a Star Wars game. Don't see why it has to be big AAA games only.

I agree, but Disney wants as many games with the Star Wars name attached to them as possible. And if they want to make exclusivity deals with them, they have to think of the biggest publishers around. I guess that, after what happened, they realised exclusivities aren't good for a series as big as SW, not to mention they probably hate EA with a vengeance now: only two big games and a couple mobile spinofs in five years, massive controversy surrounding th license right when a SW movie is on cinemas, being accused of allowing child gambling...

You know it deserves the GOTY.
