Sorry I haven't commented on the last few posts. I've been busy with other stuff and I hadn't gotten the time to watch these movies. Now that I have, I feel that I can comment.
Captain America: 5/10
It's just kinda average. The film does a good job of making Steve Rogers likable. The audience understands why he wants to be a soldier and the audience feels that he rightfully deserves those powers. The set design is pretty cool and I think it's appropriately color graded. Soundtrack is pretty forgettable but it wasn't bad. The cast is pretty decent and the CGI is really impressive for the most part. Unfortunately, the movie kinda just becomes boring by the end. It becomes a pretty conventional superhero movie that loses its WW2 feel and just starts to look flat. It's alright, I guess. Winter Soldier is much better.
The Avengers: 7/10
Pretty good movie. I'll start off with some complaints. I hate the fact that this movie has 4:3 aspect ratio. It makes it look like the cheapest out of all of the Marvel movies. Ant Man had the same aspect ratio and I hated it there too. The movie also kinda just looks bland in general, but cinematography wasn't one of the main goals Whedon had in mind. The plot is very thin and the least interesting out of all the Marvel movies. This movie is a pure comedy. The jokes are really funny, the cast has great chemistry, the action is fun (if a bit overblown), and it's great at being a giant spectacle. The action is sparse throughout the first 2/3 of the movie and I loved that about it. It made the payoff of the team working together much greater. Unfortunately, this is a one and done type of movie. I really enjoyed myself when I first watched it, but now it's just a paint by the numbers action movie. I was compelled to give it a 6/10, but I realized that it was made as a fun action movie. Not great, but fun.
I'll have reviews for Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 next week.
