I'd say there's a very limited amount of people outside of North America who gives a rats ass about the franchise, let alone knows it exist.

You mean no one gives a "rat's ass" about the franchise outside of the biggest video game market in the world? Oh okay...

We’re aware of it, but you’re right, Some even play it! Most find the very idea of Madden to be depressingly boring!

Also, Sonic, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, and NBA 2K more well known than Zelda?  HAHAHA, not on planet Earth! FIFA is big, but it’s doubtful most know it for the game so much as the license; as a game, Zelda is doubtlessly more well known.

These 3 for sure without a doubt especially in the 90's

In the 90s there was Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time - these were two of the most well received games in history, while Street Fighter And Mortal Kombat we’re popular for like 3 years in the early 90s; but neither approached Zelda status, by the end of the 90s they were definitely not making waves like Ocarina of Time; which, on top of being the most anticipated game in history at the time, was also the heaviest marketed game which included one of the first (if not the first) cinema trailers. The franchise was also among the first to receive extensive TV and magazine marketing.

Zelda, in the 90s was revered as the most important gaming franchise (even if not as popular and iconic as Mario).

And if we’re considering popularity in older decades as part of the equation, Zelda gets even more points, in the 80s Zelda was selling millions, the others were either unknown or not even yet in existence.

Today, on public websites, voted for popularity
