Nintendo looking to support the Switch for more than the traditional 5-6 year period

Good to hear. In fact, I say this even points to my prediction of a NEW Switch/Switch Pro happening at some point. It would be handled like the NEW 3DS for the most part when it comes to 3rd party games. Some games will be NEW Switch only, those that can run on OG Switch will be OG Switch compatible. Pretty much all 1st party content will work on both versioms however. And of course, sales numbers would be pooled together, much like the 3DS/NEW 3DS are.
