The style and world of Chrono Trigger never appealed to me. I'm not a Toriyama fan and never was which is why I probably drastically preferred Chrono Cross which was a stunning videogame. CT just had a story that I never wanted to really care about. I tried so many times to get into and WANTED to like it but I just can't really without just wanting to stop. FFVI however is carried by its powerful storytelling. In fact, one just has to witness the opera scene to realize how on earth were they able to create such emotion using pixels of the SNES era??? |
I care not for Toriyama either, but I can accept your points about the games in general anyway - not necessarily agree though 
It is true however, that few things at all in gaming compare to the FF VI Opera scene.
