Restricting the release of quality software so that lower-quality titles can sell is a terrible and backward way to do business. If Nintendo believed that, they wouldn’t be releasing the SNES and NES classics. Scheduling is obviously a thing, but Nintendo would be a ridiculous company to do something like block the release of a Final Fantasy so some indie RPG could sell. On the Wii, when there were gaps in the release schedule, Nintendo did a good job of filling those with VC titles.

People are not buying a game they don’t want because of the lack of a game they do want. Instead, they’ll look on other platforms.

Shovel Knight (91% on Metacritic), Steamworld Dig 2 (88%), Steamworld Heist: Ultimate Edition (91%), Stardew Valley (87%), Rocket League (86%), Darkest Dungeon (84%), Sonic Mania (86%), Owlboy (86%), Enter the Gungeon (88%), Snipper Clips + (84%), Lovers in a Dangerous Space Time (86%), Hollow Knight (86%), etc. can all easily compete with the quality of Nintendo's classics.

I'd much rather play new games instead of games I played years ago, sadly I seem to be in the minority with that

To be fair, most of the mentioned indie games sold really well on Switch, many even outselling the PS4 versions.
