mario kart 8 deluxe is on par to doing similar numbers it always has, only wii is a outlier, as for mario 3d  well there hasn't been many ambitious 3d  mario games since n64, mario galaxy was ambitious but it didn't have the wow factor because the shit hardware that wii was, and as i said before i could have did better but there 2 3d mario games that gen which never happened before.

The Wii was only an outlier because of its massive sales but in reality it was Nintendo's last successful home console. So, as the Switch atm is showing all the hallmarks of being at least competitive with the Wii, comparisons with the Wii are likely to yield  the more successful results. Mario Kart may seem to be showing all the signs of following a similar sales trajectory as the others should be added proof to you that the Switch is gonna do well. Although you could probably discount the GC and Wii u versions. It will be impossible for those to keep up, given their poor userbases. I don't even think Mario kart will even do that well compared to the most successful Mario Karts, due to it being a full price port. A new MK, however, that's a different story.
