thats no true at all, only pokemon is bigger, and its not even bigger then mario kart. 2d mario is all over the places the latest entries are selling on par with 3d mario, and they are giving away for free bundled with wiiu, and 3ds. i don't see the next 2d Mario beating mario odyssey in sales .  

All 4 of those IP are bigger than Zelda

All 4 of those IP are bigger than Splatoon

All 4 of those IP are as big or bigger than 3D Mario

Mario Kart is the only one as big or bigger than the ones i listed

 

Hate to break it to you but 3D Mario was heavily bundled on 3DS/Wii U as well.

If the next 2D Mario is just another NSMB rehash than you might be right but if its an innovative and fresh new entry than it will blow past Odyssey.
