Nintendo got inspiration form the cardboard Wii U controllers.
To be serious I really like the idea. I'm not going to get it myself, but I think this is a very interesting way to make video games more interactive for kids in a way more intelligent than "Waggle a stick!!" (I liked some of what the Wii's motion controls brought, but a lot of the integration was crude in games where buttons would be better)
I think a lot of people are acting a bit silly about this. Just because 1-2 Switch existed doesn't mean Mario Odyssey and Breath of the Wild didn't. This isn't replacing Metroid Prime 4, it's a supplement that serves a different purpose for those interested in it.
