I really like it being a handheld exactly then when i want it to be a handheld and a hoe console when i want it to be a home console. The Joycons are part of that an allow motion control at the same time, if yout want to use it. I usually don't but i'm still fine with the concept. I'm really curious what will happen with growing library and the price cut we should see sooner or later. |
I can see how some would like the convenience factor. I brought mine with me on vacation, tried it both on the plane and in the apartment where we stayed. I just found it to be really, really uncomfortable with the joy-con's attached to the sides, it's like holding a rather bulky and unwieldy tablet controller, the sticks are too shallow and the trigger buttons offer poor feedback, the other buttons are simply too small and too cramped on the controller, so detaching them and even sliding them into the controller shell is properly unsatisfying. I bought the Pro controller, which is easily among the best controllers I've ever owned, it's damn near perfect in my opinion, too bad it has an insane price tag (115$ here...). I guess I'll never fully appreciate Nintendo's quirky pack-in controllers, I really disliked the Gamepad and Wiimote as well.
I don't see them cutting the price any time soon, maybe in 2019, it really depends on what they do with the 3DS, what software they're planning on releasing and how the baseline holds up. Besides the obvious lack of supply in Japan that needs to be met, I don't really see much reason why the baseline should be abnormally high after the holidays though, ports and remakes are a much more tough sell and it would take quite something to garner as much interest as Zelda, Splatoon 2 and Mario Odyssey in around 6 months did.
