Well Gears 4 is a Gears game. Not only does the gameplay feel the same, but that's kinda crucial to the MP experience in my opinion.
Meanwhile the new God of War could have been a new IP, I don't think it has a multiplayer content so the only focus was a narrative driven campaign.
So I'm fine with Gears being Gears. But if MS wants to do something unique, either reboot an old IP or make something new. But not every IP needs the God of War treatment, especially when you consider its just a narrative driven experience.
