So by that logic if Sony makes a near identical console to the Nintendo Switch, but "does it better", and sells twice as many, then they clearly should never be given crap for copying Nintendo, right? |
Sony has constantly copied Nintendo. They did make better analog after N64 and Saturn showed theirs. Nintendo copied the share button on Switch. Nintendo copied the GBA to Gamecube from Dreamcast in the Neo Geo Pocket link. Dreamcast had a camera before Eyetoy. Nintendo has copied SEGA. Sega copied a CD add-on from NEC. SEGA even copied the FXchip. Everyone copies everyone. We had smartphones with touch screens in the early 90s. No one cared until 2007. (btw I'm the furthest thing from an apple fan but they are a good example of taking existing things and making them popular) The difference is in most of these cases were ideas never fully realized or realized well. Switch has perfected the idea SEGA came up with in 1995. TBH I love the Nomad but it was clumsy. PSP was clumsy in hooking up to the TV with a crap aspect ratio. Vita was clumsy needing another unit to purchase and by the time it came out no one cared about Vita anymore and few cared to begin with. If Sony announces tomorrow they have a Switch clone, people will know it's not a project they felt they put a lot of thought into but to cash in on the craze. When PSmove originally came out Sony presented it as..oh we have motion controls like Wii! No one cared when Game.com had a touchscreen in 1997 but did when DS did in 2004. It was a well-made system putting in thought and not cashing in on a trend. PSP in 2004 was never marketed as a hyrbid but as a portable to compete with DS.
