I was at a different point in my life I guess? Honestly I put so much time into Smash 4 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, that it was difficult for anything else to compete for play time. That's less of an issue now with the portability of the Switch. It opens up a lot more additional gaming time.
Portability can do a lot. I knew I'd love Stardew Valley the moment it came out. I couldn't see myself playing it much in front of a PC though, so I decided to wait for a portable version. An even more extreme example is VVVVVV. I've put off buying that game for nearly 8 years. Finally it's on a platform that works for me.
