You don't even need a large volume of exclusives either.
You just need one really great one.

Halo for instance put the Xbox on the map.

Most importantly, It gives options and not everyone likes a handful of IPs. Halo didn't really hold up to the sands of time and now xbox isn't on the map as much. It's why a variety of exclusives are good rather using one big IP as a crunch.
