The writer and director of this film is neither Jewish nor American. Martin mcdonah has duel citizenship in Ireland and the UK due to being born in London and raised by 2 Irish parents meaning he was most likely raised Catholic. Most of his early work has a strong relation to Ireland a country which in recent years has started to lose faith in the Catholic church due to the many scandals covered up by the church over the years.
