Yeah but this is a different situation, because Episode IX is still a direct continuation of The Last Jedi's story and it has the same producers and the same characters and stuff. It will have a different director, and might look promising when it comes, but it is deeply connected to TFA and TLJ in a way TFA never was to the prequels. Also it comes out in only 2 years (or is it 1 and a half year?).

Revenge of the Sith was connected to the prequels though and managed to come closer to Phantom Menace's numbers than Attack of the Clone's numbers despite coming off of 2 controversial movies.
