Smash, 2D Mario, 2D Zelda, Luigi's Mansion, Animal Crossing all have varying abilities to move systems especially in combination with more B franchises. While Pokemon is a big console mover, it is far from the only one. There was a point when people did not view Zelda as a system seller (despite it always having been for Nintendo systems) and now people are acting like it is the only game that it selling this system (despite games like Splatoon, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Odyssey, and Mario and Rabbids in certain regions in Europe corresponding with hardware sales bumps). In addition, Nintendo can reduce price should momentum drop. There is also the point that many prior Nintendo systems have done fine without every AAA western game that launches on the other systems, because they have their own unique libraries. Of course, many simply forget that and just point to the Wii U, which had many other problems outside of the lack of AAA titles (like Nintendo themselves making more games on 3DS than Wii U, the marketing strategy with the system in general, etc.).
