| Barkley said: Now if this wasn't a visual novel there'd be no issue. A live-action film with the following description would be fine: "A film that aims to raise social awareness of child and school related social issues through a story about four troubled heroines who, under unexpected circumstances, join forces with a young hapless teacher to fight against the evil forces that mean to exploit children." Visual Novels (and to a lesser extent anime) just have a very seedy reputation in the west. |
It's too bad too. I watched Gunslinger Girl and loved every minute of it. It's about near death girls who get a second chance at life, but are turned into ruthless cybernetic assassins fighting against a domestic terrorism group called the Five Republics Faction, and to a lesser extent, the Italian Mafia. It's amazing, and it's sad that some people won't give it a chance. The people who worked on it did Monster and then Death Note. It's pedigree material that should be schlocky. You can watch the first 2 episodes legally on Funimation's website here: https://www.funimation.com/shows/gunslinger-girl/fratello-siblings/uncut/?lang=english
