That is what PR does when using the language in a way that even though is technically right, picks up words that have a general meaning and use and spin and torture then to make a claim more grandious than it really is by some deception.
As people put, Nintendo had consoles sell more than 10M in 9 months before, other manufacturers also done it, probably some also done it before first holiday, the holiday release was almost irrelevant for Wii and PS4 reaching the mark. But when constructed as unprecedent (which means without precedent, and that isn't something that is narrow minded, it's something on more broad levels), for Nintendo and for console reaching before first holiday (which actually isn't even true because it needed November for it right?). So he put a lot of limits to make the unprecedent "gramatically right" but by empyting its meaning at the same time that people that aren't very attentive of the others sales and historic would just summarize the phrase to "Switch speed of sales are unprecedent"
