PS4 sold less as it was only available in North America at first, while the Xbox One was released in select countries across the globe.

That may be the case... PS4 launched with 2 weeks difference between USA and Europe while Xbox launched in the middle week on 13 countries right? But I remember even in USA X1 having a better first 2 weeks of sale than PS4 because of PS4 being out of stock.
