You didn't offer a single legitimate counterpoint. You simply praised the director and made a vague comment of how it transformed the series. If you're going to argue that it deserved this award more than Horizon, the least you could do is give reasoning.

The game's direction has changed the dynamic of how open world games will be approach that itself beats out anything HZD did, the absolute freedom was applied to every aspect of design in the game for reference play BOTW and explore the world then come back and play any other open world game the first thing that sticks out is how restrictive other designs now feel I'm seeing this while playing XBC2, BOTW's direction makes it the first open world adventure where players can really dictate how they want the game to play out and that design requires high execution in direction to pull off. Also to Goodnight Aonuma wasn't the director it was Hidemaro (SS' director).

If anything the only game that imo matches BOTW for this particular category is Nier:A as it utilised a unique approach to lore and story telling.

You don't have to tell all of that, I agree with the award. I was just saying that if someone is going to debate then he can't just say "the director was great and changed the status quo" and call it a day.
