When EA had the license, things were best. Now that they don't, only Sony wants to invest in making an MLB game for their consoles.

Keep in mind the time period: this was only 3 years ago, when the WiiU was not selling well and only Sony was making their own MLB game.

The Show is about 11 years old, so it was really easy for Sony to just keep producing iterations.

Yeah, one of the articles I was reading yesterday, when looking into the licensing, pointed out the irony of the NFL and MLB licensing situation.  EA signed the exclusive deal with the NFL that made Madden the only officially licensed football game, forcing 2K to cancel it's NFL 2K series.  In retaliation, 2K signed the 3rd Party licensing agreement with MLB that forced EA to end it's MLB MVP series.  2K at the time was considered the better football game developer, and EA was the better baseball game developer.  So they actually both screwed each other out of what they did best.  2K realized this and discontinued their baseball series after MLB 2K13 and have stuck with having the premier NBA game and also the WWE as their tent-pole sports franchises.  Meanwhile, EA continues to hold exclusive rights to the NFL, and also have FIFA, NHL, and NBA franchises.  Therefore, they don't see the necessity to re-build a baseball game from the ground up at this point.  In the end, EA unwittingly pushed themselves out of the baseball market the day they signed the football (NFL) contract.
