In this day and age anything with 80 or higher is pretty much a must own game. Back in the day it was both harder to get above the 84/100 mark, and easier to get to the 95/100 mark. It's easy to get to 8/10 now, because too many sites hand out high scores like candy. It's hard to get to 95/100 now because there's always a troll review or two. We've really lost a lot of good review outlets over the years, and the few remaining good ones are crowded out by the mediocre ones on Metacritic.
JRPGs have it the worst, because a lot of sites will hire anybody with a passing interest in video games to write a review. The end result is that somebody that only plays shooters reviews a JRPG and hands out a terrible score. Yeah, I get it your website's audience doesn't like JRPGs and you have to communicate to them whether or not they would like the game. But maybe if your audience isn't interested in JRPGs then you shouldn't cover them at all?
