But I think with the GC Nintendo was still fighting for the same crowd, the Wii/DS era was the turning point. The other are rather specialized on the core audience (well, Sony itself was pretty clear in saying that out loud when starting the gen and it worked better than MS shoving Kinect and TV stuff). So we can say that the only to blame for the Wii U were Ninty itself. It didn't failed because the PS4 beat it, but because Nintendo consumers looked and were not interested at all. The Switch is probably making the Wii crowd upgrade. I understand 3rd party titles can be successful on Nintendo platforms. But my point is that the life and blood of PS/XB is the 3rd party AAA market. Nintendo appeals to a crowd that is not that dependent on those big titles. I would say that 3rd parties are the icing on Nintendo's first party cake. For Sony/MS, third parties are the whole cake and first party are just the icing. |
