It's grown on me more and more over time. At the time of finishing it, I was just annoyed at how much of a mess the linear section was.
Over time, that's become less memorable and the story stands out as being quite excellent. There's so much depth to it that you just don't find out in the main game and have to find by reading through the additional material (for example, the fact that that weird shaped volcano that you can see in the corner of the map is actually the still smouldering remains of Ifrits original body)
After they've done with all the DLC and covered up all of the holes in the narrative, I think my only remaining criticism will be that Luna was such a pointless character overall.
Also, I really hope they make Nifleheim open world in their last DLC. That'd be excellent.
