The biggest sport and pastime in Europe is football. Sony has a lot of marketing going at matches and commercials. Bring the two together and there you have it.

Personally, from the people I know who buy Playstations, I have noticed two things: Many buy one out of peer pressure (because other friends have that version for that console) and many buying just FIFA and the yearly iteration of that franchise, and nothing more.

I didn't know Fifa was exclusive on PlayStation. That's really strange for years I was sure to see Xbox's publicity with Fifa.

Microsoft has almost no marketing at football games in Europe. You might think that's a small thing, but in Europe, it matters.
