That still seems like an exaggeration.

America has historically been Nintendo's strongest region. 3DS is the only system that did better in Japan vs America, every other system sold more in America and in most cases by a pretty sizeable margin.

Europe/rest of World is harder to predict. All of their handhelds and Wii sold well in these regions (over 20 million) but all of the home consoles outside of Wii have done under 10 million.

Is it possible it will slow down in the west? Yes.

Is it very likely it will? Not really.

you have to look at previous generation. we saw what the mobile market did to vita and 3ds, 3ds ands ds started out selling nearly the same, one ended doubling the other in sales. how will the market effct switch after things settle down next year, i'm very interested in seeing what happens.

Not gonna deny that mobile had a big impact but Nintendo/Sony are very much at fault as well for not adapting to the market and making significantly less appealing products than their predecessors.

That does not seem to be the case for Switch.

Also just looking at the last generation when we have ~30 years of data to look at is very shortsighted. By that logic we should have expected PS4 to sell worse than PS3.
