yea falling off a cliff is unlikely, but slowing down in us and europe is VERY LIKELY but japan will make up for it. 

That still seems like an exaggeration.

America has historically been Nintendo's strongest region. 3DS is the only system that did better in Japan vs America, every other system sold more in America and in most cases by a pretty sizeable margin.

Europe/rest of World is harder to predict. All of their handhelds and Wii sold well in these regions (over 20 million) but all of the home consoles outside of Wii have done under 10 million.

 

Is it possible it will slow down in the west? Yes.

Is it very likely it will? Not really.
