GTA 3 was a sleeper hit from my memory. I was actually looking into it but couldn't find any details other than it was the best selling game the year it released. I began wondering if my memory was a little screwy on that one. Does anyone have stats on that? I took a look at the IGN archives and didn't find anything. They're fairly good at recording that stuff, just not in an organized fashion.
Splatoon was a sleeper hit, the biggest on Wii U, but not a particularly major when compared to other consoles. Despite being an original franchise, it got a large amount of hype and marketing by Nintendo prior to launch and sold a respectable 418K. It eventually sold 4.66M, which is a fairly large increase, but only about 11X.
