The ONLY reason MS want cross play is because they don't want to lose LIVE subscriptions. I do find it odd that one of the most, if not the most, promoted reasons for people to buy an XB is because 'that's where their friends play'. It's been said a million times on every damn forum. Cross play doesn't require and Xbox live subscription though. For Minecraft it requires and Xbox live account but no sub and for other games like Rocket League you don't even need an Xbox live account.
